Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher Take Romantic Bali Vacation

Things are getting serious for Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher.

After months of denying rumors the former “That ’70s Show” co-stars were an item, photographic proof of the couple kissing confirmed what we knew all along, and now their relationship is heating up even more.

Page Six reports that Kutcher “whisked” Kunis away on a romantic vacation to Bali, where they are staying at a five-star resort on the southern peninsula. There, the couple are surely enjoying “wooden four-poster beds, a sunken indoor bathtub and ultra-private pools,” reports the paper.

For months the couple claimed they were “just friends,” in part perhaps because Kutcher is still in the middle of splitting from his wife of six years, Demi Moore.

But since the photos of the two kissing surfaced in July, they are no longer trying to hide their romance.

The pair even showed up to the wrap party for “Jobs,” last week at the Los Angeles restaurant Duplex. A partygoer told People magazine that “they showed up as a couple and left as a couple.” The insider source added that the couple “appeared to be lighthearted and in good spirits, and hardly left each other’s side. They stayed within five feet of each other practically the entire evening. It looked like young love.”

Love could indeed be blossoming, as the two have known each other for years.

“Ashton was Mila’s first kiss while on ‘That ’70s Show,’ so they’ve always had a special bond. They started dating in the spring, and things have recently become more serious,” a source told Page Six.

More stars who claimed they were ‘just friends.’

Romance’s credibility gap – U

It’s difficult for any filmmaker to choose the next project, but for Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, the couple who made a splash with their 2006 Academy Award-winning debut film “Little Miss Sunshine,” the pressure to pick the right follow-up film felt as intense as selecting a romantic life partner.

After six years of careful deliberation and a few false starts, the long-married duo finally found a script they could see themselves settling down with. They dug in with its writer and intended star, Zoe Kazan (“It’s Complicated”), to create their return to the big screen, the magical romantic comedy “Ruby Sparks.”

For Kazan, finding the idea for “Ruby Sparks” was more like love at first sight. After stumbling across a mannequin tossed in the trash, the 28-year-old rising playwright and actress (and granddaughter of director Elia Kazan) found herself thinking about the myth of Pygmalion, the sculptor whose love for his own creation brings it to life. The next morning, the seeds for “Ruby Sparks” were planted.

“I think I asked my brain a question before I went to sleep and I woke up in the morning with the answer,” the soft-spoken Kazan said during a recent visit to San Diego. “What would I do with the Pygmalion myth? What do I have to say about this story?”

In her story, Calvin (Paul Dano of “There Will Be Blood”), a neurotic writer with a severe case of writer’s block, conjures up his dream girl on paper and inexplicably brings her to life, giving Kazan the chance explore the complexities of relationships, the subjectivity of reality and the power and mystery of the creative process. She likens her experience writing the script to Calvin’s mysterious creation of the real-life Ruby. “Calvin says that Ruby didn’t come from him but through him. I think that has been very much my experience with writing, and even in acting,” she said. “Even as a kid, your imaginary life can almost feel like a visitation; like something that is happening to you rather than happening because of you.”

Even with this fuzzy origin story, Kazan knew exactly who she wanted to bring Calvin to life — her boyfriend of five years, Dano. Described by Kazan as “a private person,” Dano would only take the part once she convinced him that Calvin and Ruby’s relationship wouldn’t resemble their own (so don’t bother trying to find any juicy subtext there).

Kazan then set her sights on Dayton and Faris, who directed Dano in “Little Miss Sunshine” and, Kazan says, “were our absolute, first choice.” After years of finding nothing but mismatches, Dayton and Faris were smitten with the project, and after nine months of reworking the script with Kazan, they were ready to make it official.

As the couples both behind and in front of the cameras know — as does just about anyone who has ever attempted a relationship — there’s usually a gap between the person you choose to believe your potential significant other to be and the actual human being beneath all of that sparkly, romantic hope. Kazan wanted to use the evolution of Calvin and Ruby’s unusual relationship, which doesn’t go quite as Calvin dreamed, to explore the tendency men and women have to “define each other in love.”
